Bobbin lace, known all over Europe for its different techniques and styles and considered one of the most challenging handcrafts, has given to women the opportunity to support their family economically throughout history without having to leave aside their daily duties. Bobbin lace making was transmitted from generation to generation and from mouth to mouth, without any training support and keeping the secrets of the craft hidden. Today, many women still work lace respecting the traditions of their region, and without having knowledge of how bobbin lace has innovated.
The Erasmus + K2 project BOBBIN LACEE (“Building Opportunities with boBBins to Innovate the Network of Lace Associations Creating Education and Employment”) aims to innovate creating a network of lace associations to create education opportunities, based on the quality of non-formal learning, implementing links to the labour market, but above all, strengthening the capacity of self-esteem of the participants.
The objectives of the project are:
- to increase the importance and the historical value of bobbin lace, guarantee the quality of bobbin lace, improve the skills and competences of innovative non-formal learning methods
- to capture the attention of new consumers, creating new employment opportunities able to preserve tradition with innovative approaches
- to build a stable European transnational cooperation network linking cultural associations, museums, local/regional authorities and other institutions active in lace
The project will last from September 1st 2018 to August 31st 2021.
